You may have noticed it yourself in your garden or on your terrace: the wasp season has already started for some time now. These insects are sometimes a source of nuisance and concern. In order to direct citizens to the appropriate information and assistance, the national wasp desk was launched today via the 1722 website.

To relieve the 112 and 101 emergency centres, the www.1722.be online desk was launched in July 2021 for non-emergency assistance from firefighters in case of storm or flooding.  A national wasp desk has now been added to this electronic desk. Via this channel, citizens are either quickly and easily directed to the website of their local emergency zone, where they can find all the information they need and ask for help, or, in zones that do not yet have an electronic desk, they are directed to our new national electronic desk.

The wasp desk allows you to request help from the fire department or a private exterminator to eradicate wasp nests near housings. It also tells the citizens how to recognize an Asian hornet, which is harmful to bees and bumblebees. Only in case of urgent medical intervention, such as an allergic reaction to a wasp sting or a sting in the mouth or throat, is it necessary to call the emergency number 112.

With the national wasp desk, we want to continue to relieve the 112 emergency centres " said Interior Minister Annelies Verlinden. " At the same time, we are making sure that citizens faced with wasp and hornet nuisances can quickly find the right information and, if necessary, get the right help. "
